Young children acquire language through responsive connections with adults.
Positive reinforcement encourages them to communicate more, by
participating in learning language through the words and actions of
fingerplays and silly songs.

Infants:
Fingerplay:
The Baby Grows

Five little fingers on this hand.

Five fingers on that.

Two cheeks so tiny and fat.

Two eyes, two ears, and ten little toes.

That they way the baby grows.

Silly Song: I Used To Be A Baby (Tune: Battle Hymn)

I used to be a baby, but I’m growing everyday.

I used to be a baby, but I’m growing everyday.

I’m not so small anymore…I’m tall.

Toddlers:
Fingerplay: Two Little Birds

Two little birds sitting on a hill.

One named Jack and the other names Jill.

Fly away Jack, fly away Jill.

Come back Jack, come back Jill.

Silly Song: I Can Make Music (Tune: Ten Little Indians)

I can make music with my hands. (3 x’s) I can make music. Yes I can!

(I can make music with my feet, thighs, tummy, chest, shoulders, cheeks,
and head.)

Preschoolers:
Fingerplay: Two Little Hands

Two little hands go clap, clap, clap.

Two little feet go tap, tap, tap.

Two little hands go thump, thump, thump.

Two little feet go jump, jump, jump.

One little body turns around.

One little body sits quietly down.

Silly Song: Up And Down (Tune: London Bridges)

Make your arms go up and down,

up and down, up and down.

Make your arms go up and down. Just like me!

2. Make your hands go up and down… 3. Move your shoulders up and down…

4. Flap your arms up and down… 5. Make your feet go up and down…

6. Move your body up and down…
